ABOUT RENEE HAAS
I bring a unique blend of professional experiences to my work as a Certified Professional Coach. Early in my career I was a writer and manager in the corporate world, and I currently work as a licensed therapist in addition to coaching. Together, my skills help clients both with strategic life planning and with generating the insight and energy necessary to achieve their targeted goals.

I began my career as a journalist, working initially for community newspapers, then for the largest-circulation daily newspaper in Orange County, Calif. After that, I moved into the corporate world. I worked onsite in corporate communications for major retail, foodservice and financial services companies. At one point, I was Public Relations Manager for nearly 700 7-Eleven convenience stores in Southern California and Hawaii.

After that, I opened my own business as a freelance corporate communications consultant and writer, working with national and international firms.

During this entire time, in addition to devoting myself to work and family, I was doing various forms of volunteer work related to psychology.
I first became transfixed by the field of psychology when I was a young journalist and wrote a series of articles about the chronically mentally ill. In the 1990s, I took on a life-changing volunteer assignment: I became a paraprofessional counselor for a nonprofit mental health agency and fell in love with the work. So I decided to take the plunge and change careers. I went back to graduate school, earned a master's degree in clinical psychology from esteemed Pepperdine University, completed a 3,000-hour internship, passed two arduous licensing exams and became a licensed marriage and family therapist with additional certification in anger management. Whew!

As I worked to establish my private practice, I started networking extensively with other local professionals. While interacting with these successful, high-functioning individuals, I realized that many of them either didn't want or didn't need therapy. But they often did need some outside assistance in helping them improve their quality of life in a goal-focused way, without exploring either their emotions or their pasts as they would in therapy. They needed a life coach!

So I began exploring the life coaching field and doing additional training to augment the coaching skills I had built over the years as a businessperson and therapist.
During this time, I was quite shocked to learn that life coaching is an unregulated field, so literally anyone can call themselves life coaches without having any relevant training or experience. Since I am a Certified Professional Coach, you can trust that I have studied hard to learn the many skills needed to help my life coaching clients achieve their goals.

I thoroughly enjoy working as both a life coach and a therapist. I relish the deep emotional work I do as a therapist. And I derive tremendous satisfaction from seeing the people I coach catch fire with enthusiasm about a newly articulated goal and then see that goal actually come to fruition. It's electrifying!

Although I love where I personally stand at midlife, I could have used a good life coach to help guide and accompany me to the various milestones along the way.
I would be honored to have the opportunity to work with you, as we celebrate life and all it has to offer you.
